[Accepted] Application: Phelan
1. Your Real Name:Charles
2. Your preferred Character Name:Phalen (assuming its available and White Lions get fixed)
3. Email Address: runningroutes@yahoo.com
4. Your preferred Character Class: White Lion (if/when pet issues are fixed) or Swordmaster (I loved Swordmaster during closed beta); might try witch hunter or shadow warrior.
6. Previous Guild (if applicable):
Star Wars Galaxies: Ghosts of the Republic (defunct)
WoW: Respec (now defunct), Atonement (now defunct)
7. Have you participated in any of the WAR BETA stages? I got an invitation to closed beta; however, due to moving and Internet issues I only had access during the preview weekend. It was still enough to convince me I was headed to the right game. I have the collector's edition pre-ordered, so I will be in open beta and I will take full advantage of the 'head start'.
8. Past MMO Experience(s): Star Wars Galaxies (original and CURB, 2 days of NGE), WoW (pre-Burning Crusade), City of Heroes/Villians, Final Fantasy XI, Guild Wars, Tabula Rasa
9. Past PvP Experience(s): I've PvP in all the MMOs I've been in except for FFXI (for obvious reasons). I feel it won't be bad for me to explain where I landed in those games. I never did get a chance to PvP in Tabula Rasa as it was hard to find a clan in a clan war at the time.
So, let's start off with the first MMO I ever played: Star Wars Galaxies. I was involved in two different styles of PvP while in Star Wars Galaxies. During the original model, I was in an RP-PvP guild where I played a Master Ranger/Master Rifleman/some Creature Handler (those who played will know what I'm talking about). Those who have played will also noticed this wasn't a pure PvP build; which was great considering I was in a RP-PvP. Still, I proved effective especially when running down those who ran away from us. I later quit SWG because I felt the game was losing its feel with all the Jedi running around.
So the CURB hit and I gave SWG another chance. At this point, I went Bounty Hunter. And in the short time I played during the CURB I became a very GOOD bounty hunter. This was truly a different experience in PvP as people got venomous when you killed their Jedi (ever had an entire guild tell-spam you to the point you CTD? I have.) While some people will look at me as pure scum for what I did during my time as a bounty hunter, I loved it. Planning, thinking, waiting for the perfect moment to strike. Pure joy...
Onto WoW. I enjoyed WoW's PvP before Battlegrounds. World PvP was enjoyable. I played an orc hunter and I can honestly say I kited a paladin for 30 minutes around the Highlands before I ran off (out of arrows). The only BG I really enjoyed was Arathi Basin as AV was nothing more than a zergfest and Warsong Gulch was more about what classes you had than your skill. I was rather respected by my fellow hunters in my guild and took to training a few of them in PvP and PvE skills. This still stands as one of my more proud moments as an MMO player: being so respected by my peers that even without an 'officer' tag in the guild I was treated as if I was one.
Later, I started a human paladin on a new Oceanic server (I had switch shifts and could no longer play with my old guild). At this point, I learned to HATE WoW PvP. Nothing like entering into a Battleground and seeing half your opponents wielding Hand of Rags and rushing you underfoot; I'm not saying these players weren't more skilled than me, but I would never know as their gear made them Gods.
I played a bit of Guild Wars and was somewhat disappointed because many of the guilds I found willing to take me were not the type of guilds I'd want to be a part of. By the time I got into the game, most of the good PvPers had joined guilds and those guilds were not taking more members... or you had to have a certain PvP ranking to even get a chance. Which was impossible as I had to do random team selection groups to PvP. While I'm not the best PvPer, being thrown in with people at random doesn't give me a chance to showcase what I can or cannot do.
City of Heroes PvP... umm... yeah, not worth talking about.
10. Past Raid Experience: Mostly from WoW and SWG. In terms of 'raiding' in Star Wars Galaxies, when I was the Master Ranger, I helped my guild when we went hunting Krayt Dragons for their pearls. I did my job in finding them and then assisted in the kill.
In WoW, I was in two different raiding guilds. In Respec (with my Orc hunter), I was never promoted to officer, but I did train most of our hunters. I taught them (and some of our warriors) how to properly pull paired mobs for raiding. I explained to them why and how they should use what abilities and when. After leaving the guild due to shift change, I can honestly say one of my most proud moments was finding out that one of my first students had been promoted to class leader, he considered himself to be my protege. I think nothing can make a teacher prouder than one of thieir students being successful.
In my second guild (Atonement), I was quickly promoted to paladin class leader as I seemed good at organization and had good knowledge of the class. Interestingly enough, many of my supporters loved me because I was willing to look outside the box. I felt paladins could be more than heal-bots and I made an effort to make it happen. Again, proud moments for me in terms of MMOs was being asked to tank a mob in a raid instance. And this was before Burning Crusade when paladins became tanking machines. As I like to tell a few of my friends who still play WoW: I was a tanking paladin before tanking paladins were considered an option.
So, I'd like to think I've got a decent amount of raid experience and leadership experience with it.
11. Do you have a microphone for Ventrilo chat: Yes, I do. And I believe I have the latest version of Ventrilo already on my computer.
12. What is your usual playtime and how many hours do you average per week: I'd say I average around 20 hours a week when I'm paying to play a game. I have tabletop gaming every Wednesday night and I also game every other Sunday and Monday nights. Those days I probably won't have time to play. The rest of the week is variable; although, I do try to keep Friday nights open as I have a wife. We have no children and we don't plan on having children, so that isn't an issue in terms of when I can play.
13. Who is your Honor Clan sponsor (if applicable): Don't have one.

More information on me
So, why did I decide to apply for Honor Clan? I'll be honest (like I always am), what Xiroas posted in the 'What we do differently' post really spoke to me. It seems this guild stands for the things I want in a guild. Honesty, fair play, and a good time smashing heads: win or lose.
The fact that its mentioned that everyone deserves respect and dignity jumped out at me. So few guilds talk about this. So few guilds talk about community. And I really feel this is what a guild should be. Yes, we know each other because we happen to play the same MMO. But that doesn't mean we shouldn't be more than a voice on Vent and an avatar on the computer screen.
The fact that people are treated as a person and not in terms of title is very important to me. I've seen guilds fall apart because the officers put themselves and/or their friends ahead of others. I've left guilds for this (as I'm sure others have). The fact Honor Clan mentions this makes me believe it isn't lip service, this is something they believe in.
These things alone make Honor Clan seem to be something 'special'. And I want to be part of something special and maybe help add to it in my own way. So, if I am accepted into Honor Clan, what are my goals? First and foremost, have fun. Why else do you play a game and join a guild? To have fun.
My second goal is a bit selfish. I'll be honest, I'm looking to get to either class specialist or Strategist rank. I've been in similar positions before and I plan on working my way into one of those positions again.
My third goal is just to meet some people. It never hurts to meet more people and expand your horizons by learning about different people. This is what I miss most of being in a guild while playing an MMORPG. The meeting of people and learning of their stories. There's always more to learn about people and why not learn while playing a fun game. If anything, learning that different people enjoy your hobby will help bring down the walls of ignorance.
